About Us

Martha’s Meadow has been open since May 2018 and is situated on a working arable farm, where we grow wheat, oilseed rape, oats and occasionally barley and beans. On site are also six pet Herdwick ewes, native to the Lake District, which I have no doubt you will enjoy meeting! They are notoriously naughty but do have gorgeous, smiley faces and enjoy being fed the occasional treat or two…

My great grandad and his family came to Carthage Farm in 1925 and the farm has remained within my family for approaching 100 years! My dad, Richard, has now been farming here for over 30 years and my uncle farmed here too. Carthage certainly is a family farm; it is now in the fourth generation!
