Martha’s Meadow first opened its gates in May 2018 and is situated on a working arable farm, where we grow wheat, oilseed rape, oats, beans and peas. Living onsite is a small flock of Herdwick sheep that we have lambed in April for the past two years.
My great grandad and his family came to Carthage Farm in 1925 and the farm has remained within my family for approaching 100 years! My dad, Richard, has now been farming here for 38 years. Carthage certainly is a family farm; it is now in the fourth generation! Our surrounding fields have many footpaths suitable for walkers, where you can explore the farm further and walk down to the river.
