Martha’s Meadow has been open since May 2018 and is situated on a working arable farm, where we grow wheat, oilseed rape, oats and peas. On site you will find my small flock of Herdwick sheep, comprising of six ewes and four lambs. My ram, Teddy, makes the odd appearance too and enjoys being fed the occasional treat or two!
My great grandad and his family came to Carthage Farm in 1925 and the farm has remained within my family for approaching 100 years! My dad, Richard, has now been farming here for over 30 years and my uncle farmed here too. Carthage certainly is a family farm; it is now in the fourth generation! Our surrounding fields have many footpaths suitable for walkers, where you can explore the farm further and walk down to the river.
